Ryan McDermott
In March of 1993, Ryan graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. Prior to his graduation, he was employed by IHC Health Plans and worked in a number of capacities; starting in the company mail room and concluding 7 years later in the management information systems department where he designed accounting information systems. While employed by IHC Health Plans, Ryan was awarded the Outstanding Customer Service Award twice once in February 1989 and again in December 1992. Ryan also served as the employee elected chairman of the Employee Advisory Board, an employee driven leadership team responsible for communicating the employees' concerns, ideas for improvement and perspective to upper management.

Ryan joined forces with Luke, his brother, on June 1, 1994, and was instrumental in developing information systems and marketing strategies that facilitate the company's customer service philosophy. His goal, as an employee and producing agent for McDermott Company & Associates, is to work continuously to improve efficiency allowing our employees to have more time in direct contact with our clients. Ryan has also built a clientele of his own founded on the principals of customer service, diligence and the employment of technology.

In June of 1998, Ryan was elected to the Utah Association of Health Underwriters (UAHU) board of directors. UAHU is the governing professional association for health insurance producers, executives, sales representatives and underwriters. He served as the UAHU President from July 2002 to June 2003. In June of 2001, he was awarded the National Recruiter of the Year Award for his efforts in growing membership. He was instrumental in recruiting 85 new UAHU members. During Ryan's time on the executive board, UAHU membership grew from 219 members to 360. Ryan also spearheaded the development of four UAHU local chapters. His responsibilities included finding, motivating and training the leaders for these chapters.

Since 1984, Ryan has served in various capacities for his religious faith. From October of 1985 to October of 1987, he spent two years trudging through the rain soaked jungles of Micronesia. He lived for 22 months on the island of Yap. "No phone, no lights, no motor cars, not a single luxury, like Robinson Caruso primitive as can be." It was the greatest adventure of his life. He now serves as a clerical leader in his local parish.

He cherishes his simple family time spent in the back yard, camping or on vacation. Ryan loves working around his home and in 1995 started a basement reconstruction project that he finished in 1999. He credits his wife Julie for her continuous attempts to keep him on time, and respectable. She has a long way to go. Ryan is the proud father of three girls Mariah, Heather and Summer.

Finally, Ryan owns a set of Taylor Made golf clubs, which he enjoys swinging as often as time and work will allow.
