H. Luke McDermott

H. Luke McDermott, RHU, REBC, MHIS is the Founder, Owner/Principal of McDermott Company & Associates. Luke founded McDermott Company & Associates in 1988 after working for over 5 years for 3 different Insurance Carriers as an underwriter and sales representative. He has vast underwriting experience as an Underwriting Specialist with FHP of Utah and Manager of Group Underwriting with IHC Health Plans (now Selecthealth) and has been involved in underwriting, sales, and servicing of Small & Large Groups since 1983. His carrier alliances are strong and second to none in this area. Luke sits on, or has sat on, the Broker advisory boards of Altius Health Plans, Selecthealth, Regence Blue Cross Blue Shield of Utah, United HealthCare, and Dental Select. He has sat on the "Think Tank" committee at the State Insurance Department and has been a member of the Utah Association of Health Underwriters (UAHU) and National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU) since 1987 actively participating for 10 years on its state board of directors as a committee chairman over education and special events from 1988 to 1998. More recently Luke has served as an officer and Board of Director Member for UAHU as Vice President 2005-2006, President Elect 2006-2007, President 2007-2008, and Immediate Past President 2008-2009. He is also a member of the National Association of Insurance Financial Advisors (NAIFA) and its local association. Luke takes employee benefits seriously and has devoted much time and effort to the betterment of the insurance industry testifying before the State of Utah Legislature and its sub-committees. Richard Herd

In August of 1996, Richard joined his agency with Luke's following a three-year sabbatical from the Insurance business while he served as an LDS Church mission president of the Korea Pusan Mission. Luke and Richard became fast friends and loyal business associates while working together at IHC Health Plans from 1986 to 1988. Richard is the only son in a family of 6 children and Luke has become the brother Richard never had growing up. Following his completion of an MBA degree from Utah State University, Richard was one of the first sales executives for IHC Health Plans after they entered the employee benefits market. In 1988, he incorporated W. R. Herd and Associates and began providing insurance brokerage services to individuals and businesses in Utah and Idaho. He brings over 16 years of experience working with small and large employers, as well as individuals, helping them maximize their employee benefits package or achieve their insurance and financial needs. Ryan McDermott

In March of 1993, Ryan graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelors of Science degree in Accounting. Prior to his graduation, he was employed by IHC Health Plans and worked in a number of capacities; starting in the company mail room and concluding 7 years later in the management information systems department where he designed accounting information systems. While employed by IHC Health Plans, Ryan was awarded the Outstanding Customer Service Award twice once in February 1989 and again in December 1992. Ryan also served as the employee elected chairman of the Employee Advisory Board, an employee driven leadership team responsible for communicating the employees' concerns, ideas for improvement and perspective to upper management. Marcus R Johnson

Marcus R Johnson began his career in the insurance industry in 1997 when he began working with his father (a 30 year industry veterean). He began his intense training from one of the most knowledgeable and respected agents in the business. Along with continuing his education to provide expert knowledge and customer service to his clients, Marcus has also been an active member of the UAHU and the National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU) for the past 10 years. Both organizations promote improving professionalism as well as working towards solutions to problems within the insurance industry.

Marcus's UAHU involvement has led him to serve in many positions: Chairman of the UAHU State Legislative Committee 2003; Membership Chair 2004; Vice President 2005; and President in 2006. In 2002 the UAHU presented Marcus with the “Rookie Leadership Award” as well as “Most Influential on the Hill Award” in 2003 for his work with State Legislators. As Membership Chair, he received the “National Recruiter of the Year Award” for being the top recruiter in the nation. Marcus is a passionate member of UAHU and NAHU and meets regularly with Legislators on the State and Federal level, working towards health insurance improvement and stability. Marcus has also served on various committees as an advocate for consumers. He continues to provide insurance solutions as the Managing Agent for the Utah Medical Association, the Utah State Bar, the Independent Auto Dealers Association and other associations. With the passing of his father in 2006 Marcus continued operating The Insurance Exchange for 2 years. Timothy Madison

Timothy Madison has been working for McDermott Company & Associates since September 2000. Tim graduated from Weber State University in 2004, where he received a Bachelors of Science in Business Economics. Tim has been a licensed health and life insurance agent since March 2002. Tim's areas of experience include individual insurance products, employee benefits, human resources, payroll, accounting, and customer services.

Bruce Craft

D. Bruce Craft graduated from the University of Utah in January of 1988 with a Bachelors of Science degree. In his pursuit of Higher Education, Bruce attended Brigham Young University, Ricks College, The University of Maryland European Division in Great Britain, and The University of Utah. While in England he studied History and International Finance. He joined McDermott Company and Associates in July of 2002.

After graduating from the University of Utah he was employed by Ford Motor Credit Company. He worked there for 6 years as an auditor, financial analyst, and collector. He worked for a short time for Fidelity Investments before getting his Life and Health Insurance license in April of 1994. He became an Independent Estate and Financial Planner at that time, and has worked with various experts in those fields. More about Bruce

Brandee Garvoille

Brandee Garvoille joined the MCA team when the agency she was with before, The Insurance Exchange, merged with McDermott Company & Associates in August of 2008. Brandee has many years of experience in the various aspects of health insurance. She worked for over six years with the largest local insurance carrier in Utah in many capacities. In 2005 she left the carrier side and joined The Insurance Exchange, and Marcus Johnson, as the customer service manager. She has been in the insurance industry for over eleven years. Brandee manages Marcus’s individual book of business, as well as her own, as she became a licensed insurance agent in October of 2007. She also does group customer service and quotes for all of their clients.

Brandee was born and raised in Utah, and has been married to her husband Drew for 10 years. She has a 10 year old son and a 6 year old daughter. Some of Brandee’s likes and hobbies include: Reading, blogging, NASCAR, Utah Football, going to concerts, and spending time with her family and friends.
